Private Aircraft Departure

All aircraft departing to a point outside of New Zealand are lawfully required to depart from a Customs Designated Airport. A Customs officer will attend at the agreed time and place of departure.

Documentary Requirements

On departure Customs require the following documentation:

(a) A completed New Zealand passenger departure card for everyone on board; and
(b) A valid passport or other valid travel document of each person on board; and
(c) A Border Cash Report if persons on board have cash in their possession of NZ$10,000 or more; and
(d) A completed Outward Report, which includes aircraft, crew, passenger and cargo information. (d) This report must be delivered to Customs no less than 30 minutes before the intended time of departure of the aircraft.
(e) On completion of the aforementioned documentation, the person in charge of the aircraft will be issued a Certificate of Clearance. Once the Certificate of Clearance is issued, the craft is required to proceed directly to the intended overseas destination.

Under no circumstances is the person in charge to cause the aircraft to go to any other place in New Zealand unless there is a genuine emergency (mechanical or medical) that necessitates the aircraft returning to New Zealand.

Duty Free Stores

Duty free stores are goods which may, under certain conditions, be exported from New Zealand free of Customs duty.

Prior to departure, you can arrange for duty free stores through a duty free business which must submit a requisition form to the New Zealand Customs Service no later than 12 hours prior to departure for approval.

Any duty free stores purchased, along with their receipts, must be available for inspection by a Customs officer at the time of your departure.

Ships stores are any goods (including tobacco and alcohol) for use or consumption on board a craft by passengers or crew, or for the service of a craft.

Return of Firearms

If any firearms were detained on your arrival, contact the New Zealand Police to arrange for them to be delivered to your aircraft prior to your departure. Make sure you allow sufficient time for the firearm(s) to be transported to your port of departure, particularly if this is different from your port of arrival.

To contact the New Zealand Police, phone 09 302 6400 between 0700 and 1630 Monday to Friday, and ask for the Arms officer.
