Different positions within Customs have different requirements in terms of the skills, experience and qualifications required. However to be considered for a Customs officer position you need to demonstrate the following:

  • good judgement – ability to process information quickly; observant; able to interpret people's behaviour
  • commitment to teamwork
  • good health and physical fitness (There is a requirement to pass a medical assessment and drug test if offered a position.)
  • full driver's license for class-1 vehicle minimum
  • competency with computers and technological aptitude
