Customs seize $4 million of Crystal Meth at Auckland Airport
New Zealand Customs Service officers have seized 4 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine or ICE, with a street value of around $4 million, at Auckland Airport.
Two Chinese men arriving on a flight from Hong Kong were arrested by NZ Police.
Customs Manager Drug Investigations Mark Day says that this seizure is particularly significant and is a good example of the sustained effort that Customs is making in disrupting the supply of illicit drugs into New Zealand.
“Most of our recent seizures have been of precursors but this is the finished drug product ready for sale or use.
“This is a great result and shows the value of constant vigilance at the border."
Both men appeared in the Manukau District Court this week charged with importation of a Class A Controlled Drug, possession for supply of a Class A Controlled Drug, and possession of Methamphetamine.
Methamphetamine is a Class A Controlled Drug with the penalties for importing it being life imprisonment.
Both males entered no plea and are remanded in custody by consent.
