Designation of additional certification bodies

The New Zealand Customs Service invites a response from entities with an interest in being designated as a certification body able to issue certificates of origin under the Agreement Establishing the ASEAN-New Zealand-Australia Free Trade Area and/or the New Zealand-China Free Trade Agreement.

A valid certificate of origin must be presented to the importing party on the entry of goods to enable New Zealand exports to qualify for preferential tariff reductions under the above free trade agreements.

The Comptroller of Customs designates certification bodies authorised to issue certificates of origin. Certification bodies must be non-government entities and are expected to be familiar with the operation of rules of origin.

Information on the designation process and conditions is available from Jeannie Cozens, International Relations Policy on 04 462 0250 or jeannie.cozens@customs.govt.nz

Responses addressing the designation conditions must be received by the New Zealand Customs Service by 5.00pm on Friday 25 September 2009.
