Investigations & Response
The Investigations and Response Group is responsible for the investigation of offences under the Customs & Excise Act 1996 and the Misuse of Drugs legislation. The Group provides the operational capabilities required by the Trade & Marine and Airports groups to respond to both routine and non-routine risks – for example, rummages.
The Group undertakes the following functions:
- Drug investigations;
- General investigations including prohibited goods;
- Fraud investigations;
- Maritime patrol;
- Air patrol;
- Detecting and preventing trade of endangered species through the Wildlife Enforcement Group, a joint Customs, Department of Conservation and Ministry of Agriculture & Forestry initiative
