Investigations & Response


The Investigations and Response Group is responsible for the investigation of offences under the Customs & Excise Act 1996 and the Misuse of Drugs legislation. The Group provides the operational capabilities required by the Trade & Marine and Airports groups to respond to both routine and non-routine risks – for example, rummages.

The Group undertakes the following functions:

  • Drug investigations;
  • General investigations including prohibited goods;
  • Fraud investigations;
  • Maritime patrol;
  • Air patrol;
  • Detecting and preventing trade of endangered species through the Wildlife Enforcement Group, a joint Customs, Department of Conservation and Ministry of Agriculture & Forestry initiative
