Who We Are
Customs has around 1,300 staff around New Zealand, covering the main international airports and seaports. There are 15 locations open to the public with staff also based in Hamilton, Palmerston North, Queenstown and Timaru. Customs also has offices in Brussels, Beijing, Bangkok, Washington and Sydney.
Our Minister
The Minister of Customs is the Hon. Nanaia Mahuta.
Ms Mahuta is also the Minister of Youth Affairs, Minister of Local Government, Associate Minister for Environment and the Associate Minister for Tourism. Prior to her appointment to these roles in 2005, Ms Mahuta was the Parliamentary Private Secretary to the Ministers of Education and Local Government and was a member of the Select Committees for Health, Local Government and Environment and Maori Affairs.
Ms Mahuta was first elected to Parliament in 1996 as a list MP and represented the Te Tai Hauauru electorate in 1999 and has represented the Tainui electorate since 2002.
Our Chief Executive
The Comptroller (Chief Executive) of Customs is Martyn Dunne.
Martyn Dunne was appointed as Comptroller of Customs and Chief Executive of the New Zealand Customs Service in September 2004.
