    Composed of 1,200 staff spread across the country, Customs is home to some bright, hardworking and committed public servants.

    ​The main purpose of the New Zealand Customs Service is to stop any possible dangers, hazards and threats entering New Zealand, and to help protect and nurture New Zealand’s economic well-being.

    Customs has six main groupings: Customs 2020; Finance, Strategy and Performance; Information Services; Operations; People and Capability; Policy, Legal and Governance.

    As a government agency, Customs is committed to meeting its obligations under the Treaty of Waitangi.

    Customs works closely and effectively with many other organisations to ensure New Zealand’s well-being and security is properly maintained.

  • Comptroller's expenses

    ​Customs publishes spreadsheets showing the Comptroller's expenses every six months. The spreadsheets show the business expenses incurred by the Comptroller as well as any gifts and hospitality.
