Preparing to import

Commercial goods are goods intended for use in your business, or for resale. All imported commercial goods must be cleared through Customs by submitting an import entry or Electronic Cargo Information (ECI). Most freight forwarders or fast courier companies have in-house brokers who can undertake this clearance for you. New Zealand Post Ltd has in-house brokers who can undertake the clearance of goods sent via the postal system.

The process of Customs clearance means they will be subject to security screenings and the payment of import duties, goods and services tax, and other applicable charges.

Goods from certain countries have lower duty rates than from others.

In this section you can find out how to get started, how the process works, things you might need, and other useful information.
