Tourists Additional Allowances
In addition to
travellers’ allowances, tourists may also import the following goods without payment of Customs charges, on the condition that they take the goods from New Zealand at the completion of their visit:
- baby carriages and strollers
- binoculars
- calculators
- cellular or mobile telephones
- portable musical instruments
- portable personal computers (laptops) and accessories
- portable radio receivers
- portable sound and video reproduction devices including tape recorders, compact disc players, mini disc players, DVD players, and dictating machines with discs and tapes
- portable typewriters
- sporting equipment
- still, video and motion picture cameras together with a reasonable supply of films, tapes, and accessories
- wheelchairs for invalids.
If a tourist is unable to take the goods from New Zealand at the completion of their visit, Customs may require a cash deposit to cover the duty and Goods and Services Tax (GST) normally payable. The deposit will be refunded when the goods have been exported.
