How much alcohol can I bring back with me without paying duty and GST?

A

Providing you are 17 years or older, your allowance is:

  • 4.5 litres of wine or 4.5 litres of beer
  • one 1125 ml bottle of spirits, liqueur or other spirituous beverages.
If you do not exceed any of your allowances you may be able to import additional quantities of alcohol, providing the Customs charges amount to less than NZ$50.00. More info
 
With effect from 01 September 2007 the alcohol allowance will be:
  • 4.5 litres of wine or 4.5 litres of beer
  • Three bottles (or other containers) each not exceeding 1125 ml, of spirits, liqueur or other spirituous beverages.

If you exceed this allowance, full Customs charges will be payable on any excess quantity.
