Border Executive Board
The Border Executive Board (BEB) has been set up to coordinate the management of a safer and smarter New Zealand border.
Border agencies have a long history of successful collaboration. The type of oversight has evolved to meet the needs of the border.
- BEB as a sector leadership group from 1 January 2026.
- BEB as an interdepartmental executive board under the Public Service Act 2020 from 11 January 2021 – 31 December 2025.
- Border Sector Governance Group as a chief executive’s group from 2027 to December 2020.
Core functions
- Address gaps in border processes.
- Ensure risks are addressed.
- Make strategic improvements.
- Financial sustainability of the border system through cost recovery and oversight of fiscal challenges.
- Facilitate a positive user experience with the border system.

The BEB is supported by a Secretariat Team in the New Zealand Customs Service.
