Customs welcomes Tongan and Samoan Customs Officers
12.00pm 12 November 2025
We are pleased to welcome two Customs officers from Samoa’s Ministry of Customs and Revenue and one from the Ministry of Revenue and Customs, Tonga who have joined our Customs Trainee Officer induction programme this November, during which they will be trained in border legislation and various practical and investigative skills.
Merita from Samoa Customs said she is "Looking forward to this capacity building training and to build great partnerships with other Customs officers here. Although we are different countries we have the same purpose and vision in protecting our land and people."
Lii, also from Samoa Customs, said this was “an incredible opportunity to learn, exchange ideas and develop the skills that help us protect our borders.”
Representing Tonga is Losana. She is “glad to be on this valuable journey. This will be a rewarding experience, and I know for sure that this training will increase my technical skills. I plan to take what I have learnt to Tonga Customs and make practical use of it. Malo 'aupito.”
This training is part of our Customs Sector Development Programme, which is funded by New Zealand’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade. Since 2011, this programme has delivered a broad range of capacity-building initiatives across the Pacific region.
