NZTD programme recognised at national project management awards

01.36pm 23 May 2025

We’re proud to share that the New Zealand Traveller Declaration (NZTD) programme has won two major categories at the 2025 New Zealand Project Management Institute (PMI) Awards:

  • Technology Project of the Year
  • Project Management Office of the Year

This recognition celebrates the incredible effort across multiple agencies to deliver a unified digital system that streamlines travel while strengthening border security.

Deputy Chief Executive Enterprise Services at Customs, and former Senior Responsible Officer for the NZTD programme, Sharon May, attended the ceremony alongside colleagues from Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment, Ministry for Primary Industries, and the Ministry of Health.

“It was a pleasure to attend these awards on behalf of Customs. There’s a lot of work that happens across all agency teams to enable legitimate travel into New Zealand,” she says.

“Being recognised and winning in these two categories highlights the success of inter-agency collaboration. We leveraged existing technology and brought together the requirements of multiple government agencies into a single digital system. The result is a unified digital customer experience and a strong foundation for future border requirements.

“I’m proud of the NZTD programme and the team members from Customs, Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment, Ministry for Primary Industries and the Ministry of Health who made this possible.”
