We have lift off!

09.28am 18 November 2022

Final formalities were completed on 9 November 2022 putting into effect the US-New Zealand Space Framework Agreement which will strengthen cooperation between the New Zealand Space Agency, NASA, and other US agencies, and it will bring our nations closer together in work to ensure outer space is developed for peaceful purposes.

Last year, New Zealand signed the Artemis Accords, which promote the peaceful exploration of deep space and include support for the multi-nation Artemis program, which aims to return humans to the moon, as well as reach Mars and beyond.

New Zealand Customs was involved in work on the Space Framework Agreement, which formalises GST and customs duty exemptions for specialist equipment NASA imports into New Zealand for joint space research and development under the Agreement.
