Personal Restricted/prohibited items

Prohibited items

The items below are prohibited. You can’t bring or import these into New Zealand:

  • bongs and hash pipes

  • certain vaporisers and their parts

  • roach clips with a pincer or tweezer

  • any item for using methamphetamine

  • cannabis utensils and their parts

  • any pipe with a heatproof bowl.

Exception: Tobacco pipes aren’t included.

Vaporisers

A vaporiser that has been approved as a medical device by an overseas regulator is not a cannabis utensil and can be imported. The importation of any other vaporiser is prohibited under the Misuse of Drugs (Prohibition of Utensils) Notice 2020. Imported items prohibited under this Notice are liable to be seized at the border and destroyed.
