New Zealand has a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) with India that allows goods of New Zealand origin to enter India at preferential (lower) duty rates.

The Tariff documents available on the Customs website (Working Tariff Document) reflect the legislative changes made under the India Free Trade Agreement Legislation Amendment Act 2026.

Under the agreement, tariffs will reduce on 95% of New Zealand’s current exports to India.

Certificate of New Zealand Origin

To claim reduced or zero tariffs available under the NZ–India FTA, imports into India must be supported by a Certificate of Origin.

The Certificate of Origin confirms that the goods meet the rules of origin requirements in the NZ–India FTA and are therefore eligible for preferential tariff treatment.
A certification body authorised by New Zealand Customs must issue the Certificate of Origin in the required format.
You must ensure the importer in India receives the certificate to enable them to claim tariff preference when the goods are imported.
