Travel Movement OIAs
This section holds information on the number of travel movement requests that Customs has responded to under the Official Information Act each year since 2017.
Records of individuals travel movements arriving into, or departing from, Aotearoa New Zealand are regularly requested from Customs by a range of individuals, organisations and finance companies. Customs responds to these requests under the Privacy Act or the Official Information Act, depending on the requestor type. If an individual is requesting their own travel movements Customs responds to these requests under the Privacy Act. If a third party such as a finance or insurance company is seeking official information about individuals and have legal authority to do so, Customs responds to these requests under the Official Information Act.
While the responses to travel movement requests themselves cannot be proactively released/published on Customs website due to the private nature of the information, the numbers of these types of requests completed can be released. This provides more transparency on the number of Official Information Act requests Customs responds to.
